This Fair Trade Papua New Guinea Purosa comes from the Eastern Highlands, sourced from smallholder farmers in the Ivangoi, Purosa, and Okapa valleys through the Highland Organic Agricultural Cooperative. Grown at elevations ranging from 600 - 1500 masl, this washed Bourbon and Typica lot reflects the region’s rich volcanic soils and ideal growing conditions, producing a clean and well-structured cup.
Coffee is cultivated in small garden plots within tribal villages, where traditional farming practices have been preserved for generations. Many of the trees are over 25 years old, yielding fewer cherries but developing higher sugar concentration, which contributes to the coffee’s sweetness and depth. After harvest, cherries are pulped, dried in parchment, and transported to Goroka for milling before export through the Port of Lae.
The washed process enhances clarity while maintaining a creamy body and balanced profile. This coffee performs well across a range of roast levels and brewing methods, offering a versatile cup with caramel sweetness, subtle fruit notes, and a clean, approachable character.
Cupping Notes: Raw sugar, caramel, and cocoa notes with hints of dried apricot; creamy body, good brightness; smooth, sweet finish with light chocolate undertones.
